Idle Cultivation Games in 2026: The Verified List
Idle is the biggest cultivation sub-genre by a wide margin, because the fiction is already about grinding for decades. The problem is that the shelf is a mess: a dozen one-person itch.io projects, four Steam idlers with wildly different review scores, three mobile idle MUDs that print money, three Roblox experiences that own the word "codes", and a scattering of abandoned games that still show up in search. This page sorts them by whether they are alive, what the loop actually is, and what their own players complain about.

Free browser idle cultivators (itch.io and GitHub)
All of these run in a browser tab with nothing to install and no account. Most are single-developer projects, which is why the "last update" column matters more than the rating: a promising alpha with no commits in a year is a promising alpha you will be stuck with.
| Game | Last activity seen | The loop | Top complaint from its own comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Immortality Idle | Commits 1–2 Sep 2026; developed since Apr 2022 | Choose each day's activities, survive, grow old, die, reincarnate with better aptitudes. Open source on GitHub. | None dominant; it is the reference point other games get compared to |
| Cycle of the First Dawn (DoorWatchers) | Updated the day we checked; Beta 1.1.9 | Deliberately slow multi-life incremental: work, train, wilderness runs, each life carries progress forward. 4.3/5 from 38 ratings. | Difficulty spike between stage 2 and 3; a time-point mechanic broke after one update |
| Idle Xanxia (Cezae) | itch alpha updated May 2026; Steam Early Access since 1 May 2026 | Climb 100 floors, commit to a Dao, awaken Aspects, rebirth for permanent power. Steam reviews 82% positive of 81. | After the second world it turns into hour-long start-and-harvest timers; itch build has had save corruption |
| Path of the Idle Cultivator (Wuxia Dev) | Devlog v0.4.2, 29 Aug 2026; Steam page "coming soon" | Absorb qi through 50 realms in 7 tiers, face a 50-turn tribulation duel, die, rebirth with soul power. 3.9/5 from 15. | Nothing consistent yet; also ships an Android APK |
| Infinite Dao (Compression) | Beta 2.0, Feb 2026 | Die of old age, an amulet rewinds time, you keep multipliers and talents. 5.0/5 from 6. | Herb gathering stops when the tab is in the background |
| Xianxia Idle V2.0 (NITs09) | Feb 2026; labelled prototype, tagged AI-assisted | Click or meditate for qi, ten realms, reincarnation. 4.0/5 from 4. | Not the 2018 Kongregate "Xianxia Idle", which is dead — see below |
| Heavenly Path Idle (Almogozer1000) | Launched Jul 2026; v0.2.1 "reforge" | Meditate, build a cultivation engine, ten realms, ascend. 3.7/5 from 3. | Too many systems introduced at once |
| Cultivation Core Incremental (DeFacci) | v1.3.2, Jun 2026 | Realms, tribulations, companions, reincarnation talents. 2.8/5 from 6. | Numbers show "undefined" after three to five reincarnations |
| Idle Cultivation World (Veudaimonia) | May 2026; prototype | Meditate, recruit disciples, research. 1.9/5 from 7. | "Infinite qi" balance break |
| XIANXIA IDLE RPG (AnicoYohanes) · Dao of the Endless Sky | Jan 2026 · no dates shown | Straightforward free HTML5 realm grinders. | No comments to speak of |
| Cultivators Chronicles: Idle Wuxia (Wuxia Comp) | v2.0.1.1, mid-2026 | Tap, quest and hunt for qi through the realms. 3.7/5 from 31. Android APK and mobile web only — the developer says the desktop build is not released. | Players want a PC build; install incompatibilities; icons missing offline |
Two names you will see on the same itch.io shelf are not idle games, whatever the tag says: Peak Cultivator is a wave-defence roguelite with cultivation dressing, and SectMind is an online PvP sect-strategy game on a five-minute tick. Good games, wrong shelf. Idle Qi Cultivation is on the shelf too, at 1.0/5, with a forced Google login and comments that say everything in it was generated.
Idle cultivation games on Steam
Five titles, one of which (Idle Xanxia) is above. The other four are cheap, and the review scores tell you almost everything. Prices are US dollars as listed on 2 September 2026.
| Game | Price | Released | Steam reviews | What players say |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Idle Cultivation (Linmios) | $3.99 | May 2025 | Mostly Positive — 113 of 144 | Absorb qi through techniques, break through realms, fight, loot, craft. Early bugs cost people progress (a garden freeze); it explains almost nothing and the developer says it was designed with a companion wiki in mind. Still reviewed in Aug 2026. |
| Idle Xanxia (Cezae) | $3.99, Early Access | May 2026 | 82% positive of 81 | See the browser table; the Steam build is the same game with saves that behave |
| Cultivation Idle (老鱼工作室) | $1.99, Early Access | Jul 2026 | 50 of 67 positive | The developer says it is "not a pure idle". The most-upvoted Chinese review complains the numbers are absurdly small — 0.42 cultivation every few seconds even at 10× speed. |
| Immortal IDLE (伯乐Couple) | $5.99, Early Access | Jan 2025 | Mixed — 58 of 86 | Last review June 2026; a Chinese review claims the developer has walked away, which we could not confirm either way. |
| XiuXian Idle Cultivation (浪屿峻造) | $0.99 | Jul 2026 | Mostly Negative — 21 of 96 | A desktop combat-bar overlay, paid DLC for gear enhancement, and save corruption. The price is not the problem. |
Mobile idle MUDs
The phone idlers are a different animal: professionally run, enormous, and monetised hard. Immortal Taoists is the genre's giant — 5 million-plus Android installs, 4.5 stars from about 284,000 ratings, updated June 2026 — a text idle MUD with ads and in-app purchases up to $19.99. Its own reviews complain about the spirit-jade paywall, "70%" chance events failing four or five times in a row, and adverts that borrow another franchise's artwork. Overmortal (LTGAMES, western launch August 2023, 4.8 stars from 16,000 iOS ratings) is the polished one; complaints centre on accounts lost after a break and a pay-to-win auction economy. Infinite Cultivation (WINDFORCE, 4.6 from 11,200) is a tick-based idle MUD with purchases up to $49.99; players say realm-ups stop raising power and timers jump to 146 days. The full phone shelf — including the small ones and the gacha MMOs that are not idle at all — is on cultivation games on mobile.
Roblox: where "cultivation codes" searches actually go
If you searched for cultivation idle codes or cultivation RPG codes, you were almost certainly looking for one of these three, all free, all read from the Roblox API on 2 September 2026.
- Idle Cultivation (Open Test) by Salt Mountain — created 7 August 2026, about 370,000 visits and 469 people playing when we looked, 1,373 up-votes to 211 down. A 2D idler that openly cites Overmortal and Er Gen's novels.
- Immortal Cultivation (Alpha) by Voidborn Inc — about 495,000 visits since August 2025, 5,550 up to 469 down, indexed under its older name "Cultivation Idle".
- Cultivation RPG by Voidborn Inc — about 232,000 visits since March 2026, with an offline "seclusion" mechanic that accumulates qi while you are away.
The dead ones, so you do not spend an evening on them
- Xianxia Idle (AdamT, Kongregate) — released and last updated October 2018. Rated 3.1; the comments are about lost saves. Not the itch.io "Xianxia Idle V2.0" above, which is a different developer.
- Temporal Eden – Cultivation Rebirth — May to June 2024, 3.8/5 from 42, and the comment thread is people asking where the developer went.
- Cultivation Quest Prototype (Marrow Tap) — "Final Major Update" March 2025; the loop was recruit, gather and a continuous dice roll, and the complaint was 100-click alchemy.
- Fated Cultivation Idle (Tech Test) — Windows download only, status "on hold", last devlog September 2023.
Numbers worth quoting
- 11 free browser idle cultivators showed development activity in 2026; 4 more are dead or on hold.
- Steam idle cultivation games cost $0.99 to $5.99; review scores run from Mostly Negative (22%) to Mostly Positive (78%) across the five titles.
- Immortality Idle is the only verified open-source entry: public GitHub repository, 850+ commits since April 2022, still committing in September 2026.
- Immortal Taoists: 5M+ Android installs, ~284,000 ratings — larger than every other game on this page combined.
- The Roblox Idle Cultivation open test reached ~370,000 visits in under four weeks (launched 7 Aug 2026).
- Reddit could not be read for this page, so it makes no claim about what r/incremental_games recommends.

What idle cannot do, and the game we make instead
Every game above is built so the curve only goes up. That is the contract of the genre and it is why they are relaxing. It also means the part of a cultivation novel that keeps you reading — the breakthrough that might kill you, the elder you cannot afford to offend, the run that ends — is structurally absent. Nobody gets stuck at Qi Condensation for life in an idle game.
Blade RPG's Death Challenge is the opposite design: a text-only cultivation roguelike in the browser where nothing happens without an action, every action costs resources, your spirit root and four attributes are rolled once and locked, and death is permanent — no reload, no revive for sale. An AI narrates; a separate engine keeps score, so you cannot talk it into a breakthrough. It runs on a phone, needs no install, and gives 40 turns free with no card. Do not pick it if you wanted something to tick along in a tab; every game above does that better, and we would rather you were happy than converted. If you wanted the danger instead, start a life →
FAQ
What is the best idle cultivation game?
Free and alive: Immortality Idle or Cycle of the First Dawn. On Steam: Idle Cultivation ($3.99, Mostly Positive) is the safe buy, Idle Xanxia the other one people finish. On a phone: Immortal Taoists is the biggest, but read its reviews about the spirit-jade wall first.
Is there a free idle cultivation game in the browser?
More than a dozen — the whole first table above. None needs an account; most are one-person projects, so check the last-update column.
Is any of them open source?
Immortality Idle. Public GitHub repository, four years of commits, README asks derivatives to stay open (no formal licence file).
Which are on Roblox?
Idle Cultivation (Salt Mountain), Immortal Cultivation and Cultivation RPG (both Voidborn Inc). Almost every "cultivation codes" search is about these three.
Are there games like Immortality Idle?
Cycle of the First Dawn and Infinite Dao for the many-lives loop; Path of the Idle Cultivator for die-and-rebirth with a proper ladder; Xianxia Simulator if it was the day-by-day life you liked rather than the idling.
Idle game or cultivation RPG?
Idle for the novel's power fantasy, RPG for the novel's danger. They are contradictory goals; pick the one you actually came for. Every cultivation game of every kind is on the main list.
Or the one where you can lose
Text only, browser only, 40 free turns, no card. One life, no rerolls. Most people do not make it out of Qi Condensation.
