AI Life Sim Games in 2026: Every "Sims But With AI" You Can Actually Play

Disclosure: the last entry is ours, and we are the weakest fit on this page for anyone who actually wants a life sim. The list says so where it applies. Features and pricing change constantly in this category — check each product's own site. Last checked: August 2026.

Start here: which one are you?

The distinction that decides everything: chat memory vs engine state

Almost every argument about AI life sims comes down to one split, and most lists skip it.

Chat-memory products keep the conversation and re-read it. The character recalls what you said because it is still in the context. This feels magical early and gets thin later — when the window fills, the debt you owed and the grudge you earned quietly stop existing.

Engine-state products write outcomes into a database. The character is rude to you because a row says you defaulted on a loan, not because a model remembered. That is duller to build and far more durable to play: consequences outlive the conversation.

Neither is better in the abstract. But if you have ever been disappointed by an AI game "forgetting", the thing you actually wanted was the second kind.

The AI life sims, by what they are actually good at

Proxi — if you want the real pedigree

Will Wright, who created The Sims, has an AI life sim built around your own real memories as raw material — the pitch being that the more the game is about you, the more you care about it. It is the most conceptually ambitious thing in this space. Check its current availability before getting attached; this category ships slowly.

Infinite Life Simulation — if you want to type anything, on a phone

Mobile-first, life-from-birth framing: you type any action rather than picking from a menu, and NPCs are described as remembering you and holding grudges. The most "just let me play right now" option here.

Altworld — if you want the consequences to be real

The closest thing on this list to our own design philosophy, and we will say so plainly: it puts the life sim on top of an actual simulation, where each turn updates structured world state, debts follow you, and a run saves so one life can span weeks of real time. If you like the engine-state half of the split above, look here as well as at us.

AIdorable — if you want to raise one thing

A single AI creature that responds to how you specifically care for it, develops preferences, and changes as the relationship goes on. Much narrower than a life sim, and much faster to feel something.

EmemeTown — if you want to be a resident, not a god

NPCs run their own generated daily schedules — oversleeping, missing meals, falling in love — and you exist among them rather than above them. The closest to walking around inside a small AI society.

Blade RPG's Soul Forge (ours) — if you want to build one person and see them through

We are not a life sim. The English edition is a cultivation RPG with permanent death; the Sandbox's Soul Forge lets you craft an AI NPC from a bond — a wife, a son, a rival — and a handful of nature tags, then play forward while the engine holds state and the AI plays that nature to its literal, logical end.

The reason readers call it "the Sims but AI" is that one mechanic: you define a person, and then you do not get to control them. What you will not find here is a house, a build mode, a neighbourhood, or a family tree. If those are the point for you, this is the wrong product.

What it does have is the part people find unnerving: the tags are treated as axioms, so "utterly devoted, will remove any obstacle" gets executed the whole way down, and the result is written into state you cannot undo.

Frequently asked

Is there an AI version of The Sims?

Not one official one — The Sims itself does not use generative AI for its characters. What exists in 2026 is a cluster of separate AI life sims: Proxi (from Sims creator Will Wright, built around your real memories), Infinite Life Simulation (mobile-first, type any action, NPCs hold grudges), Altworld (a life sim on top of a structured world state), AIdorable (an AI creature that responds to how you raise it), and EmemeTown (NPCs run their own daily schedules). They are text- or menu-driven rather than 3D dollhouses.

What is the difference between an AI life sim and The Sims?

In The Sims, behaviour comes from hand-authored need systems and animations — very deep, very predictable, and it never surprises the designers. In an AI life sim, a language model infers what a character would do from its personality and its memory of you, so characters can do things nobody scripted. The trade-off is the opposite of The Sims': you gain surprise and lose polish, visuals, and consistency.

Are there free AI life sim games in the browser?

Some have free tiers. Most AI life sims cost the developer real money per turn, because every action is a live model call — so "unlimited free" is structurally hard in this category. Our English edition gives the first forged soul free in the browser with no download and no card; other products in this list each publish their own free allowance.

Is Blade RPG a Sims-like?

No, and it is worth being clear about it. The English edition is a cultivation (xianxia) RPG with permadeath, plus a Sandbox whose Soul Forge lets you craft an AI NPC — a wife, a son, a rival — from a bond and a set of nature tags, then watch the AI play that nature to its literal end. Readers call it "the Sims but AI" because of that create-a-person-and-watch-them mechanic, not because it is a household life sim. There are no houses, no build mode, and no family tree.

Which AI life sim has the best NPC memory?

It depends what you mean by memory. Chat-based products remember the conversation; engine-backed products such as Altworld and our own Sandbox store structured state, so a debt or a grudge persists as a fact the system enforces rather than as something the model has to recall. If you want consequences that outlive the conversation window, look for the second kind.

Build one person and see it through

If the part of The Sims you liked was making someone and finding out who they turn into, that is the exact thing Soul Forge does — minus the house.
