Games Like Wandering Sword: The Verified Wuxia Alternatives
Wandering Sword (逸剑风云决, The Swordman Studio, $24.99) is the best-reviewed English-language wuxia RPG on Steam: Very Positive at 94.9% of 45,633 reviews, 95.2% among English ones. It is a pixel-art, turn-based grid RPG with an authored story — a young swordsman nearly killed in a feud, then the long road through the martial world. So the people looking for something like it usually want one of three things: another story that good, the same jianghu with more freedom, or simply more wuxia to play. This page sorts the alternatives that way, and doubles as the list for games like Hero's Adventure and games like The Scroll of Taiwu.

Wandering Sword vs Hero's Adventure
The comparison everyone makes, and the two games are close cousins rather than rivals — close enough that the studios released a free crossover DLC for Wandering Sword in June 2025, alongside its $6.99 story expansion Secrets of the Eastern Sea. Wandering Sword is a story you are told well: fixed protagonist, a strong arc, turn-based grid battles with real tactics. Hero's Adventure: Road to Passion (大侠立志传, Half Amateur Studio, released November 2023) is a story you make: an open-world pixel jianghu where you start as an underdog and decide whether to become a hero, a merchant or a villain, with Steam Workshop mods to extend it. Reviews favour Wandering Sword overall (94.9% vs 84.5%), but among English reviewers the gap nearly closes (95.2% vs 93.8%). If you finished Wandering Sword wanting to stay in the world, Hero's Adventure is the next game.
Games like Hero's Adventure: the wuxia sandboxes
- The Matchless Kungfu 活侠传 ($19.99, released November 2024) — an open-world sandbox wuxia RPG where you can play "any martial arts role" and lead a group of your own. Mostly Positive at 79.2%, Very Positive (82.2%) among English reviews. The closest thing to Hero's Adventure with more management.
- The Scroll of Taiwu 太吾绘卷 — the deep end; see below.
- Wuxia Logs — a solo developer's free browser text RPG about the daily life of a wandering martial artist: turn-based tactical fights, skills that grow through use, and a world shared asynchronously with other players. In alpha. The wuxia text games page covers it and its smaller survival sibling in detail.
- Blade RPG's wuxia sandbox (ours) — free-form in a different way: text only, and you can write what your character does in your own words. Details below.
Games like The Scroll of Taiwu
The Scroll of Taiwu: Beyond the Dome (ConchShip Games, $29.99) is a sandbox life-and-martial-arts simulation in which you play through generations of heirs of the Taiwu clan. It spent eight years in Early Access and left it with its first English version in June 2026; it is Windows only and Mixed on Steam at 65.4% of 70,262 (71.9% among English reviews). Nothing else simulates a whole martial world across lifetimes, so "games like Taiwu" really means one of three trade-offs:
- Less depth, far more approachable: Hero's Adventure or The Matchless Kungfu, both better reviewed.
- The organisation instead of the heir: Amazing Cultivation Simulator is a colony sim of a cultivation sect — cultivation rather than wuxia, covered on games like Tale of Immortal.
- A world where what you did is remembered, in text: Wuxia Logs, or our sandbox, whose panels keep the people you have met and the events of your life.
More authored wuxia RPGs with English
- Fate Seeker II 天命奇御二 ($22.60) — an action RPG with deduction and puzzle chapters, Very Positive at 89.0% of 13,805. Released 2021; its official English patch arrived in June 2025, and it has been on PS5 since July 2024.
- Where Winds Meet 燕云十六声 (free to play) — an open-world action RPG in the Five Dynasties, playable solo with optional co-op and PvP. Very Positive at 86.4% of 115,102. PC and PS5 since 14 November 2025, Xbox since June 2026, mobile with shared progression. Not turn-based, not pixel art — but if what you loved was simply being in the jianghu, the biggest one on offer.
- Tale of Wuxia 侠客风云传 ($16.99) — the 2016 simulation RPG from Heluo, the Path of Wuxia studio, in which you shape your own hero's personality as well as their stats. Mostly Positive at 76.5% overall, Very Positive at 84.5% in English. Older and rougher, and still the classic of the form.
- Traveler of Wuxia 天外武林 ($24.99) — a deck-building roguelite with a wuxia story and companions, Very Positive at 85.5% of 3,213. For people whose favourite part of Wandering Sword was the combat maths.
- The World of Kungfu: Dragon and Eagle (ChillyRoom, $17.99) — an old-school turn-based pixel RPG, Mixed at 67.2% of 4,852, and the one on this list you can already play on Switch and on phones.
The genre's full shelf — MMOs, mobile, Chinese-only gems and what is coming — is on best wuxia games.

A text wuxia sandbox where you write the move (ours)
Every game above gives you the moves the designers built: a skill menu, a dialogue wheel, a set of choices. Blade RPG's English game is a wuxia sandbox — pure martial arts, no magic, no immortals — where each turn offers five numbered choices and, beside them, 🔮 Intent: you write what your character does in your own words, up to 100 words, and the story plays out the consequences. Talk your way past the sect guard, sell the stolen manual to the wrong buyer, turn two rivals on each other. What changes is written into panels — Bag, Skills, People, Events — that feed every later turn, so a grudge you made early keeps mattering, and a defeat becomes the next chapter rather than the end.
Be clear about what it is not. It is text only: no pixel art, no grid combat, no controller. It is AI-narrated, with the panels keeping score. It runs in a browser on phone or desktop, 40 turns free with no card, and new accounts' first three Intents are free. Try the sandbox →
