Is There a Cultivation MMO? The 2026 Answer, Game by Game
On PC, in English: no. There is no English-language cultivation (xianxia) MMORPG online in September 2026. The two that existed shut down — Jade Dynasty in 2018, Swords of Legends Online in 2023 — and the two strong current ones, World of Jade Dynasty and Legend of Mortal Cultivation, are Chinese-only. On mobile there are four small English ones, none rated above 3.9. What English speakers actually play instead is wuxia — Where Winds Meet above all — or Roblox. PC: the two that died and the two you cannot read
Shut down
- Jade Dynasty 诛仙 (Perfect World Entertainment) — the classic English xianxia MMO, closed 5 June 2018, the same day as Swordsman Online.
- Swords of Legends Online 古剑奇谭OL (Gameforge) — launched 2021, closed 30 June 2023; the publisher said player numbers were not strong enough.
- Revelation Online 天谕 (My.com) — Eastern fantasy rather than classic cultivation; Western servers closed 13 March 2024. Its mobile successor Revelation M is still running in English.
Online, Chinese only
- World of Jade Dynasty 诛仙世界 (Perfect World Games, Unreal Engine 5) — launched in China 19 December 2024 and on a Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia server 5 June 2025 (local phone number required). Monthly-card model. No official English; a fan patch exists, and North American and European folders have been found in the client without any announcement.
- Legend of Mortal Cultivation 凡人修仙传奇 (Steam) — an idle-MMO hybrid based on the novel, Early Access October 2025, 1.0 on 29 January 2026, free to play, 79% positive of 218 reviews, Simplified Chinese only with no English plan we could find.
- 凡人修仙傳M (mobile, BlancoZone) — a 3D MMORPG from the same novel, Traditional Chinese only even on the US App Store.
Perfect World International deserves its own line because it is the game most people mean when they say "the old cultivation MMO": it is still online in English in 2026 (an expansion update went live in September 2026), but it is Chinese-mythology fantasy built on the Pangu creation story, not a game of realms and ascension. Perfect New World, its would-be successor, has sat on Steam as "coming soon" since 2023 with no reviews. These are the honest answer to "cultivation MMORPG in English", and the ratings tell you why nobody recommends them unprompted. Immortal Clan: Grandmastery (Efun, Steam and mobile, tagged massively multiplayer) is a sect-management sim with alliances rather than a shared world, and Overmortal is an idle RPG with cross-server PvP — both get called MMOs and neither is one.
What English players actually play instead
- Where Winds Meet 燕云十六声 (NetEase) — free open-world wuxia action RPG with four-player co-op, guilds and PvP; PC and PS5 since 14 November 2025, mobile since December, Xbox since June 2026. 114,280 Steam reviews, Very Positive; about 250,000 concurrent Steam players in its second week. Not a classic MMO and not cultivation — but it is where the audience went.
- Sword of Justice 逆水寒手游 (NetEase) — a genuine wuxia MMORPG in English, cross-play PC and mobile, global launch November 2025 with a million Western pre-registrations. Steam reviews Mixed (about 54% of 1,853).
- Blade & Soul NEO (NCSoft) — Korean martial-arts fantasy MMO; Steam since June 2025, Mixed at 41%; North America and Europe each merged to a single server in August 2025; Japan's servers closed March 2026.
- Roblox: Cultivation: Mortal to Immortal (Firefly Simulator) — about 118 million visits, roughly a thousand players online when we checked, eight per server, updated the day we looked. By concurrent players this is the biggest cultivation "MMO" in English, and it is a simulator for teenagers.
- Soul Cultivation (Roblox) — about 6.2 million visits, a few dozen online.
