Cultivation Games on PC and Steam in 2026: The Buyer's Table

Disclosure: we make a cultivation game, but it is not on Steam — it is a free browser text roguelike, mentioned once at the bottom. Nothing in the tables below is ours. Prices, review counts and Early Access status change; treat this as a snapshot of 2 September 2026.

Steam is where the serious cultivation games live and where they are hardest to find. There is no cultivation tag, "xianxia" is a user tag on a few pages rather than a shelf, most of the important titles are listed under Chinese names first, and the review score you see depends on which language filter you are looking through. This page is the table we wanted before spending money: what it costs, whether it is still in Early Access, how it is reviewed across all languages, and whether it actually has English.

Cultivation games with English, sorted by what they are

GameWhat it isPriceStatusReviews (all languages)
Tale of Immortal 鬼谷八荒Open-world sandbox cultivation RPG — the genre's flagship$19.99Released May 2023 (EA from Jan 2021)Mixed, 56% of 224,681 — English-only view Mostly Positive, 79% of 3,795

Idle XanxiaIncremental with rebirth (free alpha on itch.io)$3.99Early Access since May 202682% of 81

The two to read carefully: Tale of Immortal's all-language score is Mixed, its English-only score is Mostly Positive, and the gap is largely localisation — it remains the game most often recommended for "open cultivation world" and the criticism is about the translation, not the design. Ascend From Nine Mountains is the best-reviewed newcomer but is early in a two-year Early Access plan and uses AI-generated art and music, which it says up front.

Excellent, but no English (yet)

Destiny of Immortal 造化仙缘Story-heavy cultivation RPG; one route, ~500,000 words so far$11.99, Early Access since 7 Jul 2026Very Positive, 80% of 1,832None in Early Access; "planned for the full release"

My Legend of Immortal Cultivation 我的修仙传奇Text-based idle$4.99Mixed, 59% of 54No

If you read Chinese, Seeking Immortality and Destiny of Immortal are arguably the two best things on this page. If you do not, wishlist Destiny of Immortal and wait; its studio has said English comes with 1.0.

Wuxia, not cultivation — the usual mix-ups

These get recommended to cultivation-novel readers constantly. They are martial-arts games in a human world: no realm ladder, no spirit roots, no immortality. Good games, different fantasy — here is the distinction, and if the martial-arts side is what you actually want, the best wuxia games have their own list.

Coming, unproven, or seen only on the search page

Two upcoming listings with English pages: AI Cultivation World Simulator (free, "coming soon") is a language-model god-game that requires your own API key and warns that token costs can be significant; Solo Cultivation 独修 is an incremental hack-and-slash due in Early Access in 2026. And a wave of small 2025–26 releases appeared on Steam's own search results for "cultivation" that we have not individually verified — listed so you know they exist, not as recommendations: Cultivation Magic World, Idle Xianxia Cultivation, Tale of Immortal Ring, Eve of Cultivation, Cultivation: Mystic Realm of Spirit Mountain, Eternal Sword Tomb, Cultivation Story: Infinite Sword Realm, Cultivation Idle, Cultivation Road, and a demo of Incremortal: Xianxia Ascension. Cultivating Immortals 雪鹰领 ($9.99, multiplayer) has an English page whose developer admits support outside China is poor.

Not on Steam, and free: the browser option

If what stopped you was the price, the install, or a laptop that cannot run a UE5 open world, the free cultivation games are in the browser: the idle cultivators on itch.io and the open-source Immortality Idle (the idle list), and Blade RPG's Death Challenge (ours) — a text-only cultivation roguelike where an AI narrates, an engine keeps score, your spirit root is rolled once, and once the engine records your death, that save is over. 40 turns free, no card, no download. It is not a Steam sim and does not try to be; if you want a world you can see, buy Tale of Immortal. New accounts open in our free-form wuxia sandbox; the Death Challenge is one tap away in the Hall — + New Avatar, then I'm not afraid to die. If you want a world that can kill you, start here →

FAQ

What is the best cultivation game on Steam?

By review score among games with English, Amazing Cultivation Simulator (Very Positive, 86% of about 23,600 reviews, $24.99) is the safest buy, and Ascend From Nine Mountains (93% of 302, Early Access, $19.99) is the best-reviewed newer one. Tale of Immortal ($19.99) is the biggest and most recommended open-world cultivation sim, but its all-language score is Mixed at 56% of 224,000-plus reviews; the English-only view is Mostly Positive at 79%, and the gap is mostly localisation complaints. The best-reviewed cultivation game on Steam overall, Seeking Immortality at 93% of 32,000, has no official English.

Does Tale of Immortal have English?

Yes, an official English interface. The recurring complaint in reviews is quality rather than existence: later content has historically been roughly translated, which is the main reason the English-only review score (79%, Mostly Positive) sits so far above the all-language score (56%, Mixed).

Is Destiny of Immortal in English?

Not yet. Destiny of Immortal entered Early Access on 7 July 2026 at $11.99 with Very Positive reviews (80% of about 1,800) and no English support; the store page says English localisation is planned for the full release.

Are there free cultivation games on PC?

On Steam, Yi Xian is free to play (a card auto-battler) and Legend of Mortal Cultivation is a free idle MMO but Chinese-only. Off Steam, the free options are browser games: the idle cultivators on itch.io, the open-source Immortality Idle, and Blade RPG's Death Challenge, a text cultivation roguelike with 40 free turns.

Is The Scroll of Taiwu a cultivation game?

No. The Scroll of Taiwu ($29.99, version 1.0 with English since June 2026, Mixed at 65% of about 70,000 reviews) is wuxia: martial artists in a human world, with no realm ladder and no immortality. The same is true of Wandering Sword (Very Positive, 95%), Fate Seeker II and Path of Wuxia (no English). They are often recommended to cultivation-novel readers and are good games, but they are a different fantasy.

Why is it so hard to find cultivation games on Steam?

Steam has no cultivation genre tag. "Xianxia" exists only as a user-applied tag on a handful of store pages and is not a shelf you can browse; a search for the word returns nearly 200 results, most of them unrelated. Add that many of the serious games are listed under Chinese titles first, and that several strong ones have no English at all, and discovery ends up happening in forum threads rather than on the storefront. The all-platform list covers the same problem from the other side.

No Steam, no install, no respawn

Text only, browser only, 40 free turns, no card. One life on a 45-rank ladder.
